Senate and House Still Wrestle with ACA Subsidy Renewal
In late 2025, four Republican congressmen signed onto a Democrat-led discharge petition to extend the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits (EPTCs) for three more years. The first vote on the petition took place on Wednesday, January 8th. Nine Republicans voted with all Democrats (221-205) to advance the bill for a full floor vote on Thursday. The bill was passed 230-196 with 17 Republicans joining all Democrats; though it is unlikely to pass a floor vote in the Senate. However, negotiations are underway for some kind of extension, but it remains to be seen whether any compromise will advance. The House Energy and Commerce Committee will also hold a hearing on January 22nd to discuss the EPTCs. AHPA will provide an update on that hearing in the next Policy Brief.
