Adventist Health Bakersfield hosted a hands-only CPR training at McKinley Elementary School to help students and families learn life-saving skills. The event taught more than a dozen attendees how to respond in an emergency and strengthened community preparedness. This training was made possible through partnerships with the American Heart Association and the Bakersfield City School District.

Why We Did It

Every year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of the hospital, making it one of the leading causes of death in America. Many communities lack the training needed to respond quickly in an emergency. Teaching CPR to kids and families empowers communities to take action in life-threatening situations. Adventist Health Bakersfield recognizes this gap and stepped in to deliver hands-on CPR training, meeting an important community health need and strengthening local emergency readiness.

Community Voice

“CPR awareness is so important because we are tying literacy to saving lives. As students learn to help with CPR, to understand what CPR is, and to notice the signs of someone who might need CPR, they can save a life.”
