The Lown Institute has released its 2026 Hospital Social Responsibility Index (“Hospitals Index”), evaluating hospitals and health systems on corporate citizenship across three domains: Equity, Value and Outcomes. The Hospitals Index aims to evaluate hospital performance across these domains using more than 50 metrics pulled from publicly available data like Medicare claims, CMS quality datasets and IRS filings. This year’s methodology has been updated and can be viewed here. Although hospital leaders can explore results and benchmark performance using Lown’s interactive dashboard, the methodology changes every year—making it year-over-year comparison challenging.
