In the Fall of 2025, AdventHealth Castle Rock launched a GriefShare support group to provide comfort, connection and healing for community members navigating the loss of a loved one. The 13-week program, which was initially launched to provide additional support for the holidays, reached 10 participants in the Fall of 2025 and grew to 13 participants in the Spring of 2026. The program was created through a partnership between volunteer Clarence Hughes and the Director of Mission Integration, Matthew Mundall. It offers structured grief support through video sessions, guided discussions and shared experiences. As the first non-church location in Douglas County approved to host GriefShare, AdventHealth Castle Rock is expanding access to grief resources in a welcoming health care setting. The group, which will be starting its Fall term on September 8th, 2026, meets weekly and provides participants with support resources throughout the program.
Why We Did It
AdventHealth Castle Rock launched the GriefShare group to ensure community members facing loss have a place to feel supported, understood and less alone. Inspired by volunteer Clarence Hughes’ personal experience with grief and healing, the program reflects AdventHealth’s mission to meet people in vulnerable moments with compassionate care. By creating an accessible, community-based support group during the holiday season and beyond, the hospital helps participants process grief in healthy ways, rediscover hope and find connection in their community.
