AdventHealth awarded $1.4 million in Community Impact Grants to six Central Florida nonprofits in 2024 to support workforce development in healthcare, construction, hospitality, and tourism. The three-year initiative partners with CareerSource Central Florida, The Sharing Center, employU, Home Builders Institute, iBuild Central Florida, and Jobs Partnership to provide job training, apprenticeships, and career development opportunities. The programs focus on underserved residents facing language barriers, disabilities, and economic challenges, increasing their access to living-wage careers through skills training, internships, and job placement assistance.
Why we did it
The tri-annual Community Health Needs Assessment found that nearly half of Central Florida’s working residents struggle to pay bills. At the same time, the Department of Labor reported that the median household income falls over $23,000 short of the region's living wage. AdventHealth’s strategic workforce development grants address this key social determinant of health by creating career pathways in high-demand industries, helping residents obtain sustainable employment and improving community health outcomes.
