The House Committee on Ways & Means (W&M) Subcommittee on Health held a hearing to discuss the prevalence of chronic disease and investments in prevention. Much of the hearing centered on the fact that poor nutrition is causing more harm to public than other major risk factors such as tobacco use or alcohol. Not only is our nation’s diet hurting our health, but it is crushing our economy with an estimated $1.1 trillion each year in direct medical costs and causing increased productivity loss.
