Nine states, including the AHPA states of Florida, Georgia, Ohio and Texas, received a letter from the Biden Administration expressing concern about the large share of children removed from their Medicaid program during the “redetermination” process. HHS has urged the states to leverage more of the options offered by CMS, like allowing states to use already-obtained enrollee information to auto-renew coverage. HHS also issued new guidance for states, including an option to give children an additional 12 months to re-enrolled in Medicaid. That option is available through 2024.
