AdventHealth University Tampa officially opened on November 13, 2024, with the intention to address the city’s growing nursing shortages by expanding access to nursing education. The new instructional site features modern instructional spaces, simulation labs, and birthing suites. In partnership with AdventHealth Tampa in 2026, the university will launch a Dedicated Education Unit (DEU), where nursing students train directly within hospital units under the guidance of experienced nurses. AdventHealth will introduce a Clinical Scholar role, which provides an opportunity for practicing nurses to continue to serve as a bedside nurse while also serving as a clinical instructor at AHU Tampa. At full capacity, AHU Tampa will be bringing 28 new faculty and support positions to the region. Why we did it The project addressed the need for more nurses in West Central Florida, where a shortage places a strain on the quality and accessibility of health care in the region. With a growing demand for highly skilled nurses, AdventHealth University Tampa was created to help fill this gap by providing more opportunities for people to enter the nursing profession. The university aims to prepare students to deliver whole-person care while also supporting AdventHealth’s mission to strengthen the health care workforce. By investing in education and hands-on training, the university is building a pipeline of talent to meet the long-term needs of the community.
