On January 18th, Congress passed a two-step measure to fund the federal government through March 1st and March 8th respectively, averting threats of a partial shutdown. The pending bill, called a Continuing Resolution (CR), provides lawmakers with extended time to come to an agreement concerning annual spending for the 2024 fiscal year. Funding for community health centers, the National Health Service Corps, and the extension of Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments will now run through March 8th. This marks the third short-term spending bill extension Congress has passed since September 2023. AHPA will continue to advocate for a delay of the Medicaid DSH cuts and for Congress to address the physician payments cuts that took effect because of the Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) final CY 2024 rule.
