On Wednesday, President Trump signed into law a continuing resolution (H.R. 6500) that funds the federal government through December 11, 2026, avoiding a government shutdown at the end of September.

The measure maintains federal agencies at approximately current funding levels while providing lawmakers additional time to finalize FY2027 appropriations. The legislation received broad bipartisan support, passing the Senate 90-6 and the House 370-48.

Of particular significance for healthcare organizations and grant recipients, the legislation temporarily prevents the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) from implementing proposed changes to federal grant administration that would have expanded political appointees’ authority over grant awards. This restriction remains in effect through the duration of the continuing resolution.
