On Tuesday, CMS released its Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) final rule for FY 2021. The rule, which becomes effective on October 1^st, increases inpatient payments by $3.5 billion in FY 2021. The rule finalizes the requirement for hospitals to report the median negotiated charges by MS-DRG for all Medicare Advantage (MA) payers for cost reporting periods ending on or after January 1, 2021. This is a departure from the proposed rule, which would have required the data to be reported for all third-party payers, not just MA. For further details on this rule, click here.
