Kettering Health’s expansion of its Wilmington hospital represents a $90 million investment that will double the size of the facility. At a projected 71,000 square feet, the hospital aims to improve access to comprehensive care for the local community. On August 5, 2026, the first phase of the project opened to patients, bringing emergency services and outpatient imaging to the community. The next phase planned for 2027 will include surgical care with operating rooms, 16 inpatient beds, 10 oncology infusion bays, a retail pharmacy and additional imaging capabilities. The upgraded emergency department will also feature 12 to 13 bays and a dedicated trauma bay.

90 Million Invested

Why We Did It

Kettering Health is expanding its Wilmington Health Center in Clinton County to better meet the community’s growing health needs. According to the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment, 23.5% of Clinton County adults rated their overall health as “fair” or “poor,” compared with 15.7% nationally. The assessment also found that Clinton County’s heart-disease mortality rate was approximately 31% higher than the national rate.

The project helps address gaps in access to specialty and chronic care by connecting primary, specialty and ongoing care services. This approach can help reduce unnecessary travel while giving the local community greater access to specialists, new technology and additional services closer to home. The medical campus originally opened as a 32,000-square-foot facility with a freestanding emergency department. The 71,000-square-foot facility will add long-term inpatient care options that were not part of the original layout.
