Secretary Kennedy Sparks Debate Over AI in Medicine
At the MAHA Summit held September 29th, Secretary Kennedy argued that artificial intelligence could give patients “a second opinion that is much better informed than any doctor in the country” and help “free us from medical tyranny.” The Secretary cited his recent conversation with OpenAI leadership, suggesting AI is rapidly becoming an essential part of clinical decision-making. Critics, including some physicians and public health experts, immediately pushed back—saying AI should augment rather than replace clinical judgement and warning against overstating the technology’s current capabilities.
