On Wednesday afternoon, the Senate Agriculture Committee met for final edits to the next iteration of the Farm Bill – the legislation governing most of our nation’s farm and nutrition policy. While Farm Bill policies like produce prescription programs and farmers’ financial safety-nets largely enjoy bipartisan support, negotiations fell apart last August over cost-sharing policies related to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). After much debate, the Committee was able to advance the Agricultural Act of 2026 by a 12-11 party line vote on September 16^th, moving the bill one step closer to consideration by the full Senate. The House and Senate will still have to reconcile significant differences before a final bill can be sent to the President.
