Senate Finance Democrats Seek Input on Health Coverage Reform
Senate Finance Committee Democrats are seeking feedback on how to make health insurance more affordable, easier to navigate and more accountable to patients and providers. On July 30th, Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) released a Request for Information (RFI) that builds on an earlier Senate Democratic framework and asks stakeholders to weigh in on proposals related to high premiums and deductibles, enrollment barriers, prior authorization delays, claims denials and insurer oversight.
The request also explores broader ideas that could reshape how people access and use coverage, including whether Americans should have more Medicare-like coverage options, whether health plans should be easier to compare through more standardized benefits and plan designs, and how policymakers can better track whether premium dollars and federal funding are being used for patient care rather than profits, executive compensation or other business practices. While the RFI doesn’t create immediate coverage changes, it marks a more formal step toward developing future private insurance legislation focused on affordability, access to care and insurer accountability. Comments are due October 2, 2026.
