HRSA has announced a new funding opportunity for rural hospitals, in an effort to slow rising rates of rural hospital closures. The new, formula-based grant will distribute $25 million in FY 2026 directly to eligible rural hospitals. To qualify, rural hospitals must have no more than 50 inpatient beds and a Medicare wage index below 0.90. Applications may be submitted via grants.gov through July 1, 2026.
