Reps. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) and Greg Murphy, M.D. (R-NC) have introduced a bipartisan piece of legislation aimed at better reimbursing providers who care for Medicare Advantage patients. The Prompt and Fair Pay Act would establish a minimum floor for MA plan provider reimbursement, set to be at least what would be paid under traditional Medicare. Calling it the “Medicare DisAdvantage market,” Rep. Doggett warned that the costly reimbursement delays and significant burden sometimes added by MA insurers can eventually decrease access to care for patients, particularly as physician practices face high rates of closures. The bill is largely celebrated by the medical community, including America’s Essential Hospitals, the National Rural Health Association, Premier and the Texas Hospital Association.
