AdventHealth in Tampa Bay, in collaboration with its Carrollwood location, hosted its Third Annual Women’s Health and Cancer Prevention Event in June 2024, welcoming over 500 women for comprehensive health education and screenings. The event featured presentations from leading specialists on breast cancer, cervical cancer, heart health and wellness topics while offering free health screenings, massages and facials. The day-long program created a supportive community atmosphere where women received critical health information on topics from chronic insomnia to diets and practical resources like CPR training and blood pressure screenings. Admission was offered for a $10 donation to the Kay Meyer Breast Center (KMBC) to provide free mammograms for underserved women, addressing a pressing need in preventive care. On July 12th, 2025, AdventHealth will host the event again in collaboration with its Riverview and Carrollwood locations.
Why we did it
The Centers for Disease Control found that breast cancer kills more than 40,000 women annually in the United States, with recent studies showing only 65% of women ages 50–74 who face at least three challenges affecting their health—such as lack of transportation, unstable housing, or limited access to nutritious food—are keeping up with mammogram screenings. The Women’s Health and Cancer Prevention Event moved to close this gap by creating opportunities for women to receive accessible health screenings and education at the event and through donations made to the Kay Meyer Breast Center. By removing barriers to care and focusing on early detection, AdventHealth Tampa strives to improve health outcomes for all women in the community, particularly those most vulnerable to care disparities.
