The Family Medicine Residency Program at Adventist Health Glendale, established in 1973, trains family physicians to provide holistic care that addresses both physical symptoms and patients’ emotional and social needs. Residents gain hands-on experience through clinical rotations in varying areas of medicine, learning to build strong relationships with individuals, families, and communities. Led by Dr. Silva Khanoyan, the program emphasizes empathy, ensuring that future physicians are not only clinically skilled but also committed to the well-being of those they serve. Many graduates now practice at Adventist Health Glendale.

Why We Did It

Adventist Health created the Family Medicine Residency Program to address the need for skilled and compassionate family doctors. Adventist Health understands that healthcare goes beyond just treating physical symptoms; it involves caring for the overall well-being of patients and their families. This program trains residents to meet these needs by focusing on empathy and human connection. Our goal is to prepare a new generation of doctors who are good at their jobs and committed to improving the health of the communities they serve.

Community Voice

“[The Residency Program] was founded on the understanding that medicine is not just about treating symptoms but about caring for people, families, and our community. Over the past half-century, my predecessors and I have upheld this belief, striving to build a program to nurture skilled, empathetic, and dedicated family physicians.”
