Kettering Health hosted Hand Day at Washington Township, offering free hand surgeries to patients without medical insurance. Surgeons treated seventeen individuals and performed a total of 34 procedures, including multiple surgeries for some patients. The event is an annual collaboration between Kettering Health Hand Center of Excellence, Orthopedic Associates of SW Ohio, TeamHealth, and The American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Why We Did It

Hand Day addresses the healthcare access gap for uninsured individuals in the Dayton area, specifically those suffering from hand and wrist conditions. Without insurance, these patients might not receive necessary surgical care, potentially leading to worsened conditions or chronic pain.

“I lost my insurance in April, just as I found out my hand has arthritis. I’m grateful for this practice and that they’re taking care of this.”
