Loma Linda University Health donated one acre to establish Jardín de la Salud, an organic community garden in San Bernardino. The garden provides local families with plots to grow their own produce and promotes healthy eating in a food desert. Partnering with Huerta del Valle, the garden also functions as a low-cost market, selling organic produce to sustain the project.
Why We Did It
The project was initiated to address food insecurity and health challenges within an underserved population living in a food desert. The goal of providing a community garden was to improve access to nutritious food and enhance the overall well-being of families in the region. The garden also fosters a sense of community and promotes sustainable food practices.
