Adventist Health’s Blue Zones Project in Sonora is part of a broader initiative to help communities live healthier and longer lives through proven strategies. The project enhances well-being by improving policies, public spaces, schools, restaurants, and community engagement, leading to better health and lower healthcare costs. In Sonora, Adventist Health supports the Empower Peers, Inspire the Community (EPIC) Youth Coalition, which promotes healthy lifestyles among high school students. The EPIC program offers workshops, cooking demonstrations, and wellness presentations, teaching students lifelong healthy habits and encouraging community support for smoke-free events.

Why We Did It

Blue Zones Projects aim to improve community health by implementing changes where people live, work, and play. In Sonora, Adventist Health engages young people through the EPIC Youth Coalition to promote well-being. By involving high school students in workshops and activities, the program empowers them to take charge of their health and inspire their peers. This proactive approach fosters a culture of health and strengthens community ties, ensuring a healthier future for the region.
