The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) has released its 2024 Data Book, analyzing 2022 national health care datapoints. The Data Book charts national health care spending, paying specific attention to the Medicare program. The report examines provider settings, barriers to and disparities in access to care, and Medicare’s financial health. This year’s update reflects our nation’s continued uptick in Medicare spending, which is expected to double by 2032 to $1 trillion nationwide. MedPAC asserts that this growth will be due to a boom in the number of Medicare beneficiaries and the amount and intensity of care they will need. While the number of patients increases, however, the number of health care workers per beneficiary is projected to continue its decline—prompting serious concern.
